La magnificación permite disecar cuidadosamente unidades de tejido (colgajos), vasos sanguíneos, nervios, vasos linfáticos, etc. Además permite su reconexión, haciendo posible el trasplante de tejido de un lugar a otro distante. La reconstrucción microquirúrgica es una cirugía de alta precisión, que puede tener distintos objetivos dependiendo del defecto a reparar y cuyo desarrollo permite hoy en día tratar enfermedades que antes se consideraban intratables o incurables.
