Cutaneous excess that occurs in the arm area is common in patients who have lost a lot of weight, both naturally and in those undergoing bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve or gastric bypass).
The goal of brachioplasty is to remove this excess skin. Usually the procedure is performed accompanied by liposuction in the arms, which helps to preserve the lymph channels and sensitive nerves of the arm. The excess skin is removed leaving a scar on the inside of the arm. The purely horizontal brachioplasty, with scarring in the armpit is not recommended because it usually produces a poor aesthetic result.
